Costa Cruises' commitment to supporting communities continues at a rate of knots. Since the start of the pandemic it has received many calls for help and the number of people in need unfortunately continues to rise.  Keeping true to its word, as of December Costa decided to help the local communities where its fleet is docked by making specially cooked meals on the ships to be donated to local charities.

As part of Costa Cruises' wide-ranging programme to provide food assistance, in December 2020 and January 2021:

  • we sent ashore approximately 4,900 meals from Costa Diadema in Civitavecchia, Costa Deliziosa in Brindisi and Costa Magica in La Spezia, distributed via food banks and the charity Caritas.
  • we donated over 14 tonnes of surplus food (equating to approximately 26,000 meals) from Costa depots to the Lazio and Piedmont region food banks, organising special deliveries.
  • we sent ashore 1,334 panettones from Costa Smeralda, donating them to Civitavecchia with the help of the Protezione Civile emergency service.

Besides all this, we have also donated thousands of meals through the Costa Crociere Foundation (www.costacrocierefoundation.com), which for years has been at the forefront of tackling the food emergency in Italy and beyond.

The methods may change depending on the constantly shifting emergency and various other situations, but our commitment remains the same.  Helping and supporting the needs of the local communities that host our ships is at the heart of Costa Cruises' sustainability policy.
