In Italy approximately 50,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women every year. Surprising advances in medical research have been made in this area to the extent that now, if the tumor is detected at the earliest stage, the survival rate is over 90%. One of the results of the work of the Fondazione Veronesi, set up in 2003, is the project “Pink is Good”, which promotes breast cancer prevention and provides financial support for medical researchers.

The Fondazione, whose core values include promotion of the highest ethical standards and individual freedom, funds scholarships for deserving young researchers, thus enhancing their professional training.

Costa supports Pink is Good, which provides annual funding for 30 breast cancer researchers. During breast cancer prevention month, Costa Cruises will be partnering the Fondazione Umberto Veronesi for the third year in a row, arranging consciousness-raising activities on board its ships in the Mediterranean; the campaign is aimed at guests and regards the importance of breast cancer prevention and treatment techniques.
