To coincide with breast cancer prevention month, once again this year Costa supported the project Pink is Good, which has been promoted by the Fondazione Veronesi since 2013 and has the set objectives of conducting awareness-raising activities, promoting breast cancer prevention and providing annual support for medical researchers. The winner of this year’s scholarship funded by Costa is Stefania Cocco, a deserving young researcher who has a degree in Medical Biotechnology and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”. She is now working at Naples’ Istituto Nazionale Tumori, IRCCS Fondazione Pascale on a research project dealing with the role of autophagy in the treatment of breast cancer. The ‘Pink is Good’ campaign was also carried out on board Costa’s ships. Consciousness- raising activities regarding the importance of prevention were conducted for a whole week on the company’s vessels deployed in the Mediterranean: in each cabin guests found a study pack with in-depth information, tips for a healthy lifestyle and advice about regular check-ups and screening tests. In addition on Monday, October 16, when the Costa Fascinosa ported in Naples, with the patronage of the Municipality and the support of the local Port Authority there was a picturesque, non-competitive, fundraising walk called “A seaside stroll in pink”. This was one of the free events included in the “Stati Generali del Mare” program promoting the blue economy. Guests from the ship, local citizens and members of the ‘Pink is Good’ team alike all had the chance to take part in the walk and enjoy the splendid scenery of the city.
