Once again this year Costa Cruises is supporting the Pink is Good project, which is promoted by the Fondazione Umberto Veronesi, an organization that has long been on the front line of breast cancer prevention and awareness-raising activities. In Italy, approximately 53,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women every year. Great advances in medical research have been made in this area to the extent that now, if the tumor is detected at the earliest stage, the survival rate is over 90%. Accordingly, the main aims of “Pink is Good” are prevention and backing for scientific research. Support was provided for 10 researchers in 2014, whereas their number has grown to some 42 this year; this is partly thanks to the help of Costa, which funds a scholarship set aside for a deserving, young female researcher. In addition, during breast cancer prevention month, Costa Cruises is partnering the Fondazione Umberto Veronesi for the fourth year in a row, arranging consciousness-raising activities on board its ships in the Mediterranean; the campaign is aimed at guests and regards the importance of breast cancer prevention and treatment techniques.
