The Consulta Diocesana of Genoa is an association that manages 15 shelters and refuges in and around Genoa for youths as well as single and separated mothers in difficulty.
From the experience of some Costa volunteers who organized games and entertainment in these facilities at different times of the year, it emerged that during the summer months the minors living mainly in one of these welfare establishments find it hard to keep themselves occupied.
This led to the setting-up of a project whereby these children and adolescents were invited to spend a day on one of the company’s ships in the Port of Savona; not only did they have the chance to look round the vessel, they also took part in educational games and acquired hands-on experience of the atmosphere and amenities on board a cruise ship.
The young visitors were welcomed on board by members of Costa’s Teen Entertainment Staff, who spent the whole day with them – this included games in and around the pool, other forms of recreation and a buffet lunch.
The fleet members involved were the Costa Diadema, Costa Magica and Costa neoClassica with a total of 8 visits from July through September, 155 visitors (aged between 6 and 18) and 4 Costa volunteers accompanying the parties; their assistance combined with the Teen Staff’s professionalism and sensitivity made these outings even more special.
