Costa Cruises is partnering the third edition of the Festival of Sustainable Development, scheduled from May 21 through June 6, 2019.

This is the biggest international sustainability fair, with hundreds of events all over Italy. It is a massive appeal to individual and collective action – one that Costa feels morally obliged to respond to insofar as the Company has an important part to play. The Festival is promoted by the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development (ASviS). This year’s edition features the slogan Mettiamo mano al nostro futuro, which translates as “The future’s in our hands”, a call to everyone, from ordinary citizens to the business world and institutions, to build a sustainable planet together.

To help disseminate positive messages of sustainability and responsible citizenship, once again this year the ships in the Costa fleet will be acting as roving ambassadors for sustainable development.

As part of the varied program of nationwide events – for details see – Costa Cruises will also be showcasing its experience and best practices in the field of sustainability and responsible innovation.

The focus is on several 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals, which underpin Costa’s strategic vision and a number of projects that are unprecedented in global shipping. Examples include the 4GOODFOOD program recognizing the value of food with the aim of halving food wastage fleetwide by 2020 and participation in the process that resulted in the Company’s homeport of Savona being the first European city to receive LEED for Cities certification, in line with Goal 11 - Sustainable cities and communities.

These and other projects will be discussed at some of the main events at the Festival, including: Tuesday, May 28 in Milan, “Businesses and funding for sustainable development. Opportunities to be seized and obstacles to be removed”; Monday, June 3 in Genoa, “Regions, cities and communities for sustainable development”; Wednesday, June 5 in Naples, “Circular economy, innovation and employment”.
