This is the only time when citizens around the world get together to celebrate the Earth. First held in 1970, the United Nations celebrates Earth Day every year, one month and one day after the spring equinox, on April 22. It is a global event that reflects growing consciousness and – more importantly – growing support for tangible efforts to change human behavior and protect the fragile equilibrium of our planet.

Respect for the environment, reduction of impacts, protection of marine ecosystems and fostering of the environmental heritage in the ports of call are all priority issues for Costa, on its route to sustainable development based on responsible innovation with the future of the planet in mind.

Two new ships – the first in the world to be powered by LNG, the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel; integrated waste management aimed at recovery, reuse and recycling; optimization of consumption and a focus on responsible management of resources (energy, water and food). These are just some of the concrete examples of our engagement. Costa’s commitment includes raising the awareness of its guests and crew members so that they not only adopt but actually embrace more environmentally conscious models of behavior and consumption.

We are all inhabitants of this extraordinary planet, which continues to amaze us with its stunning beauty. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to protect and preserve Mother Earth for future generations.
