The technical launch of Costa Toscana marks another significant step forward in the adoption of LNG in the cruise sector. Costa Smeralda’s sister ship is the second in the Costa fleet to be fuelled by liquefied natural gas, the most advanced fuel technology currently available in the maritime industry: a tangible demonstration of Costa's leadership in sustainable innovation.
The ceremony took place on 15 January in the Meyer shipyard in Turku where Costa Toscana officially touched water for the first time, when the dry dock where the ship has been coming together over recent months was flooded.
The new flagship is a tribute to Tuscany and the culmination of an extraordinary creative project by Adam D. Tihany to reveal the best of this wonderful Italian region and pass on the experience to guests: the names of the ship, its decks and its public areas all come from Tuscany.
The "Made in Italy" concept was reverentially adhered to: the décor, lighting, upholstery and accessories are all supplied by fifteen partners that embody the very best of Italian excellence, featuring a mix of their most iconic designs and others exclusively created for the ship.
Costa Toscana will be delivered in December 2021 and will make its début in Brazil in the 2021-22 season.
