St. Cruz de Tenerife
The capital of the island of Tenerife is a quiet city, and one of the best in the world for quality of life, despite its port being one of the most important and busiest in Spain since the old days of colonisation. On a cruise to Santa Cruz de Tenerife will you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Museum of Nature and Man to see up close the mummies of the native Guanches people who were the first settlers of the island more than 2,000 years ago. The social heart of the city is Plaza de España with its majestic central fountain the size of an artificial lake. From the square, you can stroll past the shops and reach the beautiful Auditorium designed by Santiago Calatrava, an architectural work whose modern forms stand out against the blue of the ocean. Another gem not to be missed on a trip to Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the TEA museum of contemporary art. The 'La Recova' market, the result of the restoration of the old 19th century market and now a great place to buy fresh local produce, is also worth a visit.
Not to be missed:
• Auditorio de Tenerife
• Nuestra Señora de África market
• Circulo de Amistad
