What we will do
  • The Fatu-ma-Futi, aka the “flowerpots”, two rock formations guarding the entrance to the bay of Pago Pago, welcome us to this fabulous island with a fantastic panorama of the eastern shoreline.
  • We pass by the industrial area, airport, Lyndon B. Johnson Medical Center and the Nuuli and Lava-Lava village to reach the golf course, where we can take pictures of this dreamlike scenery.
  • Our next stop is the Leone Missionary Monument, dedicated to John Williams, the first missionary of the London Missionary Society who arrived in the village of Leone together with eight Tahitian acolytes on 18th October 1932.
  • We continue towards Vila, a village entirely made up of small huts and with the typical raised “fale”, i.e. an oval structure open on one side used as a meeting point for the village council.
  • In each hut, it is possible to see how coconuts and coconut leaves can be used to make objects and weapons.
  • The inhabitants demonstrate how they cook their food on rocks and offer us a drink while we enjoy our visit and a dance show before heading back to the ship.
