What we will do
  • Our tour starts with a transfer along the coast, where we can admire two rock formations guarding the entrance to the bay of Pago Pago. The Fatu-ma-Futi, aka the “flowerpots”, welcome us to this fabulous island so a stop for a photo is a must.
  • We continue past the industrial area, airport, Lyndon B. Johnson Medical Center and the Nuuli and Lava-Lava villages to reach the golf course, offering amazing views of the eastern coast of the island.
  • Our next stop is the Leone Missionary Monument, dedicated to John Williams, the first missionary of the London Missionary Society who arrived in the village of Leone together with eight Tahitian acolytes on 18th October 1932. Leone was the ancient capital of the island of Tutuila and, until the introduction of steam ships, it was the favourite mooring spot for sail boats preferring to avoid the bay of Pago Pago. This is why the main contacts between the local population and the European took place here.
  • We then visit the Leala Sliding Rocks, an ancient lava flow now used by children as a slide.
  • Before heading back to the ship, we stop at Pagofie's Guest Fale, where we attend a demonstration of the Ava ceremony followed by enthralling local dances.
