Let us discover the Mayan archaeological site of Cahal Pech, a magical place where we will relive the ancient fasts and rituals of this civilisation by visiting the palace, temples and squares. A typical Belizean lunch awaits us after the tour.

What we will see
  • Maya Cahal Pech archaeological site
  • Museum of artefacts
  • Palace, temples and 7 squares
  • Typical Belizean lunch at the Orange Restaurant and Gift Gallery

What we will do
  • An air-conditioned coach takes us on a two-hour trip to the marvellous Mayan archaeological site of Cahal Pech. The site is located near the city of San Ignacio in the Cayo district. Cahal Pech, which means 'Place of the Ticks”, was called this in the 1950s during the first archaeological studies led by Linton Satterthwaite from the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology of the University of Pennsylvania
  • While we drive through Creole villages and the capital’s suburbs, the guide will tell us all about the history of Belize (formerly British Honduras), describing the most interesting sites and everyday life in this small State.
  • We then reach Cahal Pech.
  • The site also includes a small yet very interesting museum displaying a collection of artefacts found during archaeological excavations.
  • During our visit to the museum, the guide explains how the different items were used, giving us a clearer idea of Mayan everyday life.
  • A walk along on a jungle trail takes us to the amazing Palace complex made up of over 30 buildings.
  • Cahal Pech develops around a central acropolis and includes 7 squares, numerous temples and houses linked through corridors formed by “false arches”.
  • After our visit to Cahal Pech, we enjoy a delicious lunch of Belizean dishes.
  • At the Orange Restaurant and Gift Gallery, an open-air restaurant with garden, we can enjoy famous dishes with rice, beans, chicken and an array of side dishes.
  • After lunch, we return to the ship by coach.
