Half of the territory of Latvia, also known as the “Pearl of the Baltic” an ideal destination for a green and nature-based cruise, is covered by forests.
While travelling in Latvia, we visit the Gauja National Park, in the hilly area of Sigulda, where we find a large number of caves and castles. In the forests of this area we can find moose, foxes and white storks, while seals are easy to spot along the white beaches of Jurmala and the Kurzeme Coast, a wild area and well known among surfers. On our North European Costa cruise, we arrive at the port of Riga, the capital city, whose historic centre was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. Walking through the centre, we can admire the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style of the buildings. We can go strolling through the alleys of the medieval centre to discover culinary traditions in the great Market Hall.
