Costa’s program recognizing the value of food has now been extended beyond the Mediterranean and reached the shores of the Caribbean.
By virtue of the Costa Magica’s port calls in Martinique on Thursday, December 20 and
Guadeloupe the following day, our 4GoodFood project to reduce food waste across the Costa
fleet is continuing to proceed in leaps and bounds, and is furthering the partnership with Italian
food bank charity Banco Alimentare.
The excellent quality food prepared but not served in the ship’s restaurants will now be
distributed to many people who, on these islands of paradise, live in conditions of extreme
poverty and hardship.
Thanks to our alliance with Banco Alimentare’s global network, based on the redistribution to
charity of surplus food, Costa will be supporting the work of two associations that provide help for
the most disadvantaged sections of the population of the French Antilles: ACISE (Association
Citoyenne pour l'Insertion Solidaire et Économique) Samu Social a Fort de France, in Martinique
and the Association Saint Vincent de Paul in Guadeloupe.
In the space of 12 months we distributed more than 70,000 portions of food to people in need in
and around Savona, Civitavecchia, Bari, Palermo, Marseille and Barcelona; 4GoodFood is
continually broadening its horizons, adding more and more ports in Italy, across Europe and
around the world.
